Woodlites. A really complicated reflector/projector design that failed to do what it was supposed to do due to shitty available bulbs and no way to plan out the reflector shape other than guesswork. They got used on some Cords as well.

I think they were used on all the ACD cars as some point. They look ridiculously cool on the 851 Boat-tail Speedster.

I’d heard they’re actually terrible as lamps, but damned if they don’t look good.

Their idea is workable, if the housing were redesigned just a touch with modern modeling and somebody used something absolutely unholy bright (with even radial output) as the light source. Low-intensity 30s electric bulbs, forget about it.
